Fearless use of colour and pattern in this month’s Lonny Magazine. From someone who gravitates towards neutral palettes (for everything but rugs, that is), this was an inspiring issue.
Speaking of rugs, nice Madeline Weinrib and Rug Company selections.
Now that we’ve moved in, I’ve been a bit preoccupied with what to put on our walls. Well, I need to unpack first, but hanging artwork is on my radar.
Maybe that’s why I seem to be spotting interesting textured walls all over the place – these walls are decorative in their own right and don’t need any extras at all. From fur wallpaper to wide plank wood, who said walls can’t be a bit more ornamental?

I have a houseful of freshly painted walls waiting to be decorated. The thought of putting that first nail in to hang some art, however, feels somewhat unsettling. Maybe it’s because I’m not one of those people that like to measure. It’s true, I generally just eyeball something before hanging it up – a personal quirk that might just put my husband over the edge!
If I had a few large pieces, it would be a lot easier. But I don’t. I have a bunch of small photographs and framed drawings. Good thing that I love the look of gallery walls.
Not as easy to pull off as you might think – but worth a shot. I can always cover up my mistakes with other pictures. Right?
I love the designs and story behind Fine Little Day. Some of the products are designed by Otto, the 8 year old son of founder Elisabeth Dunker. How great is that? (discovered via Design*Sponge)
I’m Katherine Yaphe, the founder and designer behind Oliver Yaphe, Inc. This business was an idea in my mind for a long time. I knew that I wanted to build something, I just didn’t know how. I worked in the corporate world dreaming of what to do next. Then one day I decided to just start. I launched with rugs. Branched off to artwork. Paper came next. We’ll see what’s to come. What I do know, is there will be more.

I love being inspired to create. It doesn’t matter how big or small the undertaking, it’s more about this feeling that drives so much of what I do. This blog is my space to instill a bit of that energy to my readers. It’s a lofty goal. I might fail horribly. But every once in a while, something might click (or at least I hope so).
