Leading a Visual Life – The Sartorialist

Jan 11 2011

I love this short documentary featuring The Sartorialist creator, Scott Schuman. A great reminder to notice details in the everyday and to do what you love.

His site also always reminds me of how much I love (and miss) New York!

Flat out inspiring. Take a peek:

A Little Bit Country: Gwyneth Paltrow at the CMAs

Nov 16 2010

Ok, this posting doesn’t have anything to do with houses or design – well, unless you consider the amazing outfit that Gwyneth Paltrow is wearing. But, I wanted to share this clip, because I found it inspiring. Sure, Gwyneth has it all going on – fabulously famous, gorgeous, rock star hubby – but I love that she has all these hidden talents that she keeps exploring. Well, she’s been singing for a while -but to stand up live at the CMA’s is something else. Love this clip:

Also, ever since my Nashville weekend, I’ve been warming up to all things country.

House Tour: Shaffer Residence in Tom Ford’s A Single Man

Nov 11 2010

My previous posting featured the home of Julianne Moore. That got me thinking. Specifically about her last film – or at least the last one that I saw. Tom Ford’s A Single Man. I’d been told that the film was slow, but that’s specifically what I loved about it. Each scene was shot so beautifully – it was like watching a moving photography exhibit. I also couldn’t take my eyes off of Colin Firth’s (George’s) gorgeous mid-century home.

I expected to see amazing clothes given the director (and he did not disappoint)…but the house seriously caught my attention. The Shaffer Residence was designed by Architect John Lautner in 1949. It’s quite incredible, don’t you think? And there’s that Paavo Tynell pendant yet again! Some day…

Take Cover

Jan 14 2010

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being introduced to Frank Viva by a mutual friend. Frank has it all going on with modesty to match. He’s built an amazing branding and design agency called Viva & Co. He created Whigby – you must check out their poster and stationery line. His first kid’s book is pending with HarperCollins. And, now, yes, Frank has hit the illustration jackpot. Deservedly so. He’s illustrated the latest cover of The New Yorker. The New Yorker. Let me say that again. Ok, I won’t, but you get the picture. I adore Frank’s illustration style. Its modern and distinct and gaining serious momentum.

I have a heap of old New Yorker covers that I’ve been collecting over the years. What a fabulous addition the January 18, 2010 issue will be.
